This washed Gesha lot is sourced from Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera La Prosperidad de Chirinos, or La Prosperidad co-operative for short. La Prosperidad is a cooperative of skilled coffee producers in Chirinos Peru, known for its commitment to quality, sustainability and innovation. With a shared focus on environmentally responsible practices, the producers prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and sustainable land management. Their dedication goes beyond cultivation; it is a collective effort to elevate Chirinos’ reputation as a premier specialty coffee origin, ensuring each harvest meets the highest standards.

The producers of La Prosperidad have mastered a soft-washed method with extended fermentation, a technique that enhances their coffee’s complexity while preserving its clean and vibrant profile. After selectively handpicking the ripest cherries, the coffee undergoes an extended 36-hour fermentation before being washed. This controlled process refines the beans’ fruit-forward characteristics, leading to a cup with bright acidity, layered sweetness, and a smooth, balanced body.

By combining precision, sustainability, and craftsmanship, La Prosperidad’s producers create coffees that stand out for their depth, clarity, and distinctive flavor profiles.

Chirinos, located in the San Ignacio province of northern Peru, offers exceptional high-altitude coffee-growing conditions, ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 meters above sea level. Its volcanic soils, cool mountain climate, and distinct microclimates contribute to slow cherry maturation, resulting in coffees with rich, complex flavors and pronounced sweetness. The region’s warm days and cool nights provide ideal conditions for washed coffee processing. The extended fermentation allows the beans to develop greater complexity and balance, while the careful drying process preserves clarity, acidity, and body in the final cup.

La Prosperidad’s dedication to organic and sustainable farming ensures that their coffees not only express the best of Chirinos’ terroir but also support the long-term health of the land and community. Recognized among specialty coffee roasters worldwide, their coffees are a true reflection of Peruvian craftsmanship, innovation, and excellence.
