    The ‘why’ of the business

HONOUR THE LAND | CHERISH THE FARMER | ELEVATE THE BEAN

At Penelope Coffee we are very aware that even as a micro roaster, every small step we can make towards conscious decisions will make a big difference to our environment. Our philosophy is simple: honour the land, cherish the farmers, and elevate every bean. Proudly family led, we are pouring our passion and dedication into every cup.

INTEGRITY - We’ve partnered with suppliers who share our values to be shepherds of the environment. All our coffee bags are carbon neutral & certified recyclable. Our bag stickers are printed in the UK using biodegradable recycled paper with a toner-based printer = food safe, vegan and more environmentally friendly than inks. Our pod boxes are made from recyclable card & the pods are made from 100% recycled aluminium. We’ve chosen Aluminium for our pods as it is a universally recyclable material which also holds the flavour notes and integrity of the coffee grounds inside the longest. We have also implemented 4kg buckets for wholesale coffee to our ‘daily serve’ customers, to reduce packaging wastage.

COMMUNITY - We deliberately purchase our green coffee beans from like minded importers. Supporting the community of the coffee farmers and wet mills directly impacts the quality and yield of the crops for years to come. It is soo much more than just looking after a coffee plant with good practices. We look for suppliers who are at origin, working directly with the communities with support like health care, equality, education, infrastructure development and regenerative farming practices. The whole community benefits from multi layered support, and each origin is unique. “We take local connection to heart”~ Sucafina

QUALITY - Giancarlo has trained with coffee masters, self-educated himself & gained recognised industry qualifications to be able to roast the coffee we select to showcase the individual flavour notes each origin and varietal can offer, elevating every bean. We pride ourselves in purchasing quality seasonal, single origin coffee, personally inspected to ensure no degradation from storage or travel nor excess imperfections are present. We use only speciality graded coffees, meaning we’re purchasing from the top 20% available on the international market.

SOCIAL - Our consumer community is just as important to us & we thrive on offering guided tastings to raise awareness of origin efforts by our importers & the flavour notes and potential of our coffees.  For our wholesale community we offer in house barista training to maintain the integrity of the cup. Giancarlo is also available as a cafe consultant to help with workflow, store layout and additional training. We strive to appear on social media wth educational information & images to represent the efforts at origin and showcase the uniqueness of each coffee and the farmers/people involved.  .

By purchasing Penelope Coffee, you can join us in savouring the culmination of our values in every cup. Your purchase helps us support the farmers at origin through our selected importers. It’s not just the brew- it’s a journey fuelled by passion, integrity & a commitment to bringing you the finest coffee experience.

A little more info…

My passion for exploring coffee has sent me around the world for different experiences. Owning a cafe in Melbourne, SCAE training in Italy, working on coffee farms in Costa Rica, to competing & roasting in New Zealand. Now based in Tunbridge Wells, United Kingdom.

For me the quality starts on the land with the farmers & is finished in your cup. The small attention to details along the way make all the difference, and elevate beans from being good to great. This is what truly creates a speciality bean, it’s then my job to roast the beans to showcase their flavour profiles.

The catalyst for me bringing my own coffee into the world, was the birth of my little girl, Penelope. She is my life inspiration.
